“playing for both teams” – Warhammer Online

30 Apr

From the producer letter:
Remember what I said about focusing on the present? Well, we couldn’t let a producer’s letter go by without giving you at least a small peak at the future, now could we? Well, here’s the bombshell: By 1.3.6 players will have the capability to play as both Order and Destruction on the same server.

I am honestly very surprised by this bomb of an announcement. I guess right off the bat, I am not seeing the benefit to this, just the negatives.

1) Most importantly, this is a huge blow to realm pride. It is a bit funny, because I was just about to start doing some articles on the blog about restoring realm pride to Warhammer. Obviously one of the biggest problems with the city seige being participation based is you need to rely on realm pride to be greater then the desire to just roll over and let the enemy take your lands if you are locked out on offensive city timer and can get loot for defensive city timer. I know for a fact the devs agree with that as well, and this seems to be a HUGE GIANT step backwards making things even worse.

2) Your cross realming community is already cross-realming. They are also paying for 2 accounts to do it.

3) A large amount of the people not cross-realming are not cross-realming for a reason. This is a strong subject for many people, and this is where Mythic must have different information then my assumptions, but I would definately assume they will lose a good number of subscriptions over this, and gain very few.

4) It is going to hurt some guilds that have members jump to the other side with their main account, then be locked out of their current guild.

Obviously this is a very snapshot opinion as this information was just released. I will do another entry in a month or so, after I have heard some information and tried to determine what would prompt this by Mythic.

BSD 6v6 Update

28 Apr

Only a few days to go, it looks like we are mainly struggling getting more order teams signed up. It is a bit surprising that I have almost an infinite number of Destruction teams waiting to come onboard, but I can’t get more then a handful of Order teams to jump in.

If you are in a position to advertise this or know some Order that might have fun, please get the word out ASAP and have them contact me immediately. I would love to get them in.

Teams Signed up so far
——————————————

Destro: Team Sexy, Team MDK, Team Ruination, Team Laphroigm, Team Mango
Order: The League of Extraordinarily Gay Gentlemen, *Team Isego, *Team Brohendas

*More team details need to be submitted asap!

1.3.5 Auto Attack Haste Calculation – Warhammer Online

28 Apr

Wondering how your AA will be affected by the patch? Toss your weapon and haste into the following formula’s.

speed = Tooltip weapon speed before any haste
haste = the auto attack increase you have as a decimal. eg. 25% = .25

Before patch 1.3.5strong>
Actual Weapon Speed = speed * (1-haste)

After Patch 1.3.5
Actual Weapon Speed = speed / (1+haste)

The new way of looking at it is the amount of swings you get. I can’t say I completely understand that, but that is the concept Mythic is pushing and how they want to view the AA haste changes to be equivalant too.

Looking up Tyrant, it looks like it goes from 25% –> 20%, which isnt a huge drop, but the way the formula works, the more haste you had pre patch, the more you lost. So if you had godly amounts, like 75%, you drop a lot more then just the 15% you would expect from looking at the previous example. try it out!

1.3.5 pre-patch checklist item. Convert RvR Currency – Warhammer Online

27 Apr

Word is, most people are converting down any currencies they feel they wont need in the future, creating a large pool of officer tokens for pots etc.. while you can still get more then 1:1. This is of course a small risk because Mythic could implement more things on the vendors for the mid level items like the talismans, so do your own research and weigh your own options carefully. See patch notes below.

Patch Notes:

Open RvR Currency Changes

With 1.3.5, players will notice that each of their Open RvR Crests have been renamed to “Ancient” Crests. These items are not the required currency to purchase set items, but will instead convert into 5 of their respective crests (e.g. Ancient Conqueror’s Crest converts to 5 Conqueror’s Crest). With this change, the price of armor on the Medallion merchants has been adjusted accordingly.
Crests now convert downwards on a 1:1 scale (e.g. 1 Invader’s Crest converts to 1 Conqueror’s Crest, which converts to 1 Officer’s Medallion). Additionally, all Fused Crests will now convert into 10 Crests. You will also notice that anywhere you were previously awarded a Crest, you are now awarded a stack of 5 Crests.

New to the Open RvR Stores

New unique Talismans are now available from each of the 4 Medallion Quartermasters! These Talismans of Aptitude and Celerity can be purchased with tier-appropriate medallions, and last a certain number of played hours based upon their quality.

ps. In a somewhat related note, if you are testing on the test server and need to break down tokens fast to buy gear, there is an addon called mass refine which people are using to do that.

Balancing Rewards in a RvR City – Warhammer Online

26 Apr

In order to make an RvR based city, you obviously need to have rewards for attackers and defenders to ensure they both come out and you have an RvR fight.

One situation however keeps popping into my head as something that may need to be monitored. With loot lockouts in place for both attacking and defending, once you have burned down your enemy’s city and are locked out on loot, the almost next logical place for a chance at loot is to defend your own city.

I have confirmed that even if you have a loot lockout, you can still receive tokens for participating. Hopefully this is strong enough incentive to continue to push the rvr zones towards an offensive city attack, rather then sitting back or taking a break and hoping your lands get taken and you can defend sometime soon for a seperate lockout.

Mythic apologizes for billing issues with renown and gifts!

21 Apr

Today Mythic made a solid apology along with a few more details about what happened with the multiple billings.

As compensation, those affected by recent billing errors will get to choose two of the following on each of their characters:

•Bottomless Chaos Black Dye
•Bottomless Skull White Dye
•Imperial Griffon Mount (Order)
•Enslaved Manticore Mount (Destruction)
•WAR Tract – earn a free level
•Choose from any of these pets – Order: Imperial Hunting Hound or Dwarf Keg Handler; Destruction: Warlord’s Fell Hound or the Goblin Bar-Back.
•Change your appearance with any of these illusion items: Skaven Skin Cloak (skaven), Kossar’s Helm (bear), or the Signet of the Cursed Company (skeleton)

In addition, ALL players will receive 100% experience and renown for 2 weeks! Woot!

If you are still having trouble with back fees or if you were charged without compensation, please contact Mythic and let them know. As expected by the people who remained calm, EA/Mythic worked hard to make sure that they did everything they could to make things right, in an unfortunate and bad situation.

-Embrace the Warp cooldown changed to 1min

General
-Alliance members are now always visible to you, regardless of their hidden/anon flags

Items
-A wounds/heal crit has been added to the game

City Invasion
-Renown gain the city has been increased by many times. It is now the single best place to be for renown.

.
.
.
Unrealistic

Staff Change-
We have listened to you all and due to your feedback, Andy Belford is no longer going to be head of combat and careers balancing, the in game appeals system and third party billing and accounting system purchasing. He has been demoted to simply one huge role of Community Coordinator. What that basically means is, anything in the future will not be directly and entirely his fault, but anything in the past still lies at his feet.

Zealot Changes
-AE detaunt has been added to the zealot

New Scenerios!
6v6 Caledor Woods: Only groups of 6 may queue.
12v12 Caledor Woods: Only groups of 12 may queue.

The new scenerios do not allow respawning, do not contribute to the campaign and do not reward a scenerio token. They also have no flag and have a time limit of 5minutes.

Items
-All PvE sets now have an alternate way to be obtained similar to how wards are obtained through the tome of knowledge. In the case of high end gear, the tome requirements will contain a combination of PvE Boss kills, city invasions, keep captures and renown rank.

-Boss 8 in ToVL was found to be bugged and wasn’t dropping chest loot for certain destruction guilds, he will now drop a repairable chest item at least once in a blue moon now.

-Zealot itemization has been completely redone from the ground up. Our appologies.

Expansion Info
News of the expansion will be released soon as we have been secretly hard at work on it. Start gathering your friends and guildies back to Warhammer for the fall release.

New feature! Mythic Bucks!-A vendor for “Mythic Bucks” is now located in the capital cities. These vendors will let you change the visual appearance of any item you have to any other item you have unlocked in your tome. You can also purchase a variety of mounts, hair style changes and increased xp potions. More items to be added in the future. Mythic bucks can be purchased through their website and small amounts will be generated to your account through subscriptions.

Bloggers-The next blogger/dev trip has been announced and it will be a Q/A in Hawaii. Tyanon from backseatdev.com and his wife have been invited to participate.
